What is NeoLife Acidophilus Plus?
Acidophilus Plus is a live-culture food supplement providing five billion bacteria per capsule from a mix of five strains. It is 60 capsules, taken one a day with a meal, so a bottle is a two-month supply.
Before anything else, two things worth knowing up front: this product contains milk (the cultures are grown on skimmed milk powder), so it is not suitable if you avoid dairy; and live cultures like these carry no authorised health claims in Great Britain, which we explain plainly below.
What is in each capsule
From the UK information on the pack. One capsule is the recommended daily intake.
| Per capsule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Live bacteria | 5 billion, at time of manufacture1 |
| Number of strains | 5 |
| Capsules per bottle | 60 (a two-month supply) |
| Net weight | 14 g1 |
The five strains are Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus delbrueckii bulgaricus, Lactobacillus paracasei, Bifidobacterium animalis and Streptococcus thermophilus. The capsule shell is made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC); NeoLife calls this its Gel-Gard delivery system, intended to help the cultures pass through stomach acid on the way to the intestine.
What we do not claim
We want to be straight about this. Live bacteria cultures have no authorised health claims in Great Britain — and the word “probiotic” is itself treated as an unauthorised health claim here, which is why you will not see it used as a benefit on this page. We can tell you factually what the product is: the strains it contains, the number of live organisms, that it is once a day, and how to store it. We cannot, under GB law, tell you it does anything for your digestion, gut or immunity, and we will not imply it. If you have read benefit claims about acidophilus or “gut flora” elsewhere, those are not approved claims.
How to take it
One capsule a day, swallowed whole with liquid at meal times. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Keep in a cool, dry place out of reach of children, and preferably refrigerate the bottle after opening — live cultures keep better cold. The bottle contains a small desiccant sachet to absorb moisture; do not eat it.
60 capsules at one a day is a two-month supply.
Allergens and suitability
Contains milk. The bacteria are cultured on skimmed milk powder, so Acidophilus Plus is not suitable for vegans and not suitable for anyone with a milk allergy or who avoids dairy. No other allergens are declared. There are no artificial flavours or sweeteners. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, immunocompromised, taking prescribed medication or under medical care, speak to your GP or pharmacist before starting any live-culture supplement.

What to compare when buying a live-culture supplement
| What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Number of live organisms | Compare the count per capsule — here 5 billion — and whether it is stated at manufacture or at end of shelf life. Higher is not automatically better; the strains matter too.1 |
| Which strains, and how many | This one lists five named strains. A named strain is more informative than a vague “live cultures” line. |
| Milk or other allergens | Many live-culture products are grown on dairy. This one contains milk and is not vegan — check the equivalent on anything you compare it with. |
| Storage and delivery | Some need refrigeration; this one is best refrigerated after opening. An HPMC capsule is designed to protect the cultures through stomach acid. |
| Claims made | Be wary of any live-culture product making digestion or immunity claims or using “probiotic” as a benefit — those are not authorised in GB. |
Why buy from AME NeoLife Supplements
We are an official NeoLife distributor in the UK. NeoLife products are not sold in retail shops, so an authorised distributor is how you get them as genuine, in-date stock — which matters more than usual for a live-culture product. Acidophilus Plus is manufactured by Starter Corporation A/S in Denmark and distributed in the UK by NeoLife International Ltd in Birmingham. Orders are dispatched from the UK; delivery times and returns are set out on the delivery page.
