What is NeoLife Carotenoid Complex?
A whole-food carotenoid supplement: an oil-based capsule carrying a blend of carotenoids extracted from five plants — carrot, paprika, tomato, spinach and marigold — with an added fruit blend and vitamin E. It is 90 capsules, taken one to three a day.
It provides several carotenoids together — beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, lycopene and lutein — rather than a single isolate.
What is in each capsule
From the UK nutrition information on the pack. The recommended intake is a range — one to three capsules — so both columns are shown.
| Amount | Per 1 capsule | Per 3 capsules |
|---|---|---|
| Vitamin E | 6 mg α-TE (50% NRV)1 | 18 mg α-TE (150% NRV)1 |
| Beta-carotene | 1.5 mg1 | 4.5 mg1 |
| Alpha-carotene | 0.56 mg1 | 1.68 mg1 |
| Lycopene | 0.35 mg1 | 1.05 mg1 |
| Lutein | 0.14 mg1 | 0.42 mg1 |
The carotenoids are delivered as plant oleoresins — concentrated oil extracts. Per capsule, NeoLife states the extracts are made from approximately 13 g of carrot, 10.5 g of tomato and 4.8 g of spinach.1
What we can and cannot claim
This is worth being straight about. Carotenoids — beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein — carry no authorised health claims in Great Britain. So we cannot tell you they do anything for your eyes, your skin or anything else, and you should be sceptical of any seller who does.
The one authorised claim that applies to this product is for its vitamin E: vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. At 6 mg (50% NRV) per capsule, and 150% NRV at three capsules, it meets the threshold at which that claim may be used. Nothing else on this page is a health claim, and nothing is intended to diagnose, prevent, treat or cure any condition.1
Why a blend rather than one carotenoid
Most carotenoid supplements isolate one — usually beta-carotene, sometimes lutein. Fruit and vegetables never contain just one; they contain a spectrum. Carotenoid Complex is built to mirror that, drawing beta- and alpha-carotene, lycopene and lutein from different plants. Whether the spectrum matters more than an isolate is not something we can claim a benefit for — but it is the honest reason to choose a blend, and the label states exactly which carotenoids and how much of each.
How to take it
One to three capsules a day, with a meal — carotenoids and vitamin E are fat-soluble, so taking them with food that contains some fat aids absorption. Do not exceed three a day. Store somewhere cool and dry, out of reach of children.
At one capsule a day the 90-capsule bottle lasts three months — about 75p a day; at three a day it is one month, about £2.25 a day. Choose the intake to suit how much of your carotenoid intake you want to come from a supplement versus your diet.
Allergens and suitability
Contains soya (soya lecithin). The capsule shell is gelatine, so it is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. No other allergens are declared. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking prescribed medication or under medical care, speak to your GP or pharmacist before starting any new supplement — and note that high-dose isolated beta-carotene has specific cautions for smokers, though this is a low-dose whole-food blend rather than a high-dose isolate.

What to compare when buying a carotenoid supplement
| What to check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Blend or single carotenoid | Many products isolate beta-carotene. This is a five-plant blend of beta- and alpha-carotene, lycopene and lutein. Neither is “better” — they are different. |
| Whole-food or synthetic | Beta-carotene can be synthetic or plant-derived. These carotenoids are extracted from named fruit and vegetables. |
| Dose of isolated beta-carotene | High-dose isolated beta-carotene has cautions, especially for smokers. This is a low-dose whole-food blend. |
| Health claims on the page | Carotenoids have no authorised GB health claims. A seller claiming eye or skin benefits for them is overstating it. |
| Cost per day at your intake | This ranges from about 75p a day at one capsule to £2.25 at three. Decide the intake first, then compare. |
